Abstract Shanghai X-ray FEL (SXFEL) is a test facility at Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences originally designed for studying XFEL principle and technologies. It is composed of a warm linac to provide up to 840 MeV electron beam, an undulator line with cascaded EEHG-HGHG setup and a short diagnostic beamline. The project started the construction by the end of 2014. Recently a proposal to upgrade it to an user facility at the soft x-ray regime got approved. The talk will give an overview of the test facility construction and upgrade plan.
