Title Simulation Study of Beam Halo and Loss for KEK Compact ERL

Abstract At the KEK Compact ERL (cERL) designed to operate at high-brilliance and high-current electron beams, the maximum averaged current was recorded at 6.5 muA for the beam energy of 20 MeV on March 2014 and should be increased up to 10 mA in a step-by-step manner in a few years. In order to increase the beam current by reducing the beam loss, we need to know the mechanism of the beam loss. For this purpose we investigate beam halo originated from characteristics and imperfections of an electron gun system, using the tracking code GPT (General Particle Tracer). The beam halo can be lost by the beam-pipe apertures and the collimators in the cERL beam line. In this paper, we will present the simulation results including the beam halo formation and the beam loss distribution along the beam line.
